Yeah good point about class and race as well. My SiL who is Peruivan, her father is much more light skinned and indeed his maternal grandparents were from Croatia than my SiL’s mother who I think has more indigenous and even some African blood. It’s a complicated region. I believe I read that Argentina and Brazil were in the top ten of places for immigrants to go to after the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia but most non-Hispanics don’t really think about it that much. I wouldn’t say out of bigotry but not really understanding the diversity of South of the border. You also in Mexico anyhow I know have plenty of Hispanics of Arab decent like Salma Hayek and Carlos Slim.

I think Slim’s parents were Romanian immigrant.
