In California when a car is over 25 years (iirc) you no longer have to get a semi-annual smog check. Some fuck spun out on the freeway and killed my last car when it was 19 years old. My new car replacement is 13 years old now, 12 years to go.

They stopped doing that a long time ago. Now it has to be a 1975 model year or older. They tried to raise it to 1980 a few years ago but that flew like rock through the state legislature.
