re: #60 Belafon

I was hoping to find someone that would teach my son and me how to weld over the summer. I’m coming up with no hits. First, I was hoping to find just a place that taught it, but nothing around here. No luck on the close community colleges nearby. Someone suggested asking the welding supply places, but there are none really close. Any other ideas?

Go to harbor freight and buy him a wire feed welder.
You can start with 110 volt, but it really is worth it to go to 220. It isn’t hard to wire a receptacle.
A wire feed welder is easier to use. Buy flux wire, that way you do not need gas (to start, to weld aluminum you will need gas).

Buy a 4” grinder (don’t buy the cheap one, with a switch, it will bite you. If you let it go it should shut off, don’t ask me how I know this.)

If you have a metal supplier in your area, buy scrap steel, I go to Albany Steel. but most farm stores and Lowes and Home Depot have very expensive steel.

and of course Weld.com for guidance.

Once he masters that, he can branch out to aluminum, tig, and stick welding.

If he really gets into it, my plasma cutter has been awesome, and no consumables.
