Obama should be a matter of some satisfaction to conservatives with half a brain: proof that success in America is not a matter of race, and a challenge to all of the black inner-city kids to apply themselves.

But that is obviously not what they have ever wanted to see.

Good point. You think the rest of them would get it into their thick skulls that Obama got to where he is through a lot of hard work and personal responsibility.
