re: #1010 Obdicut

Yes. I don’t think he made any sort of good distinction between his magical acts that were ‘good’ and the bad magical acts of others that would create a distinction between good honest godly magic and witchcraft.

I can’t really think of any statement he made on witches or magic, actually. Do you happen to know chapter and verse?

Great question. First, it’s important to note that there is much in the Old Testament that warns against it, for example, Deuteronomy 18:14 (NIV) “The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so.”

Jesus only further bolstered that position. He was adamant that only through God’s name should we ask for supernatural favors. That sort of rules out any other method.

A more focused example is Acts 13:6-12. Essentially, Paul calls out a practitioner and as an example of his accuracy, God temporarily blinded the practitioner through Paul.

The point is that witchcraft is the pursuit of supernatural favor through a means other than God, or even through God for the purpose of creating a self-serving display of power.

Does that help?
