The ruling on SSM had to have been a key factor in all this. It wasn’t a major or even peripheral campaign issue. But it had to have played a significant role. Why so many evangelicals backed Trump so early when other more conservative and electable candidates were there to choose from I’ll never know. But evangelicals in particular understand, I think correctly, that they have lost power and influence. How Trump is supposed to be a vessel for their revival I don’t know.
