What is your thinking if the reason he has a big lead in the polls is because he is exactly what he is, that combination of conservative southern state Democrat of old that also pisses off them liberals up in New York.

I think we are making a mistake not actually thinking of why Joe Manchin has been successful in our want to make the Democrats successful and more pure.

I tried making that point in my CL’d string at the end of the last thread. Joe wins his seat because he does strattle the fence enough to keep everyone happy. That is why they love him. I bet many in the state are damn proud their senator stood up to those mean DC ultra-liberals.

I just think we have to find that line where we just want anyone wearing our label and our principles. I think the issues with Kavanaugh went beyond partisan politics which is why I take much more issue with Manchin voting for Kavanaugh than I do for Gorsuch. And frankly I’m tired of the red staters and their bullshit attitude when it comes to D.C. and the “establishment.” Grassley has been in Washington since the Ford years as has Hatch. Ruby red voters don’t “hate” Washington, they hate liberals. Some of us are insiders that have been here a long time but others including two of the Senators that grilled Kavanaugh the hardest are freshmen.
