I grew up in a diverse area. Always thought that was a blessing. These people just can’t accept that America is and always will be a diverse place.

I did as well. That was one part of Hillbilly Elegy that I appreciated: that Appalachian whites were as distinct an ethnic group as the Latinos and blacks on our street. They were white, but not the same kind of “white” as the Eastern European or WASP whites.
