The US has an embassy in Israel (Tel Aviv), and it has a consulate in Jerusalem.

Congress enacted legislation in 1995 ordering the location of the embassy to Jerusalem, but Clinton, Bush, and now Obama have not moved it because it would interfere with their foreign policy objectives - and because the final status of Jerusalem is still TBD by the parties in final status talks (if and when that ever happens).
