Thanks, but, although as I said I’m not Navy, methinks the .50 was to mark the target for the 3” gun. Cause a 3 inch gun is sure as hell a lot bigger than a .50 caliber MG.
But I sit corrected about 3” cannons guns being in use based on your link!
