True enough. But, this country is split 50/50 with gay marriage. I don’t think that money played as big a role in the final outcome. We’ve seen many proposition failing on the side of the bigger spenders many times before. In my opinion the results were based on true public opinion on gay marriage in California.

I’m not convinced the country IS split 50/50 over gay marriage. Most of the folks I’ve talked to who oppose gay marriage do so because they have the mistaken belief that allowing gay people to get married means that their church will be forced to perform gay marriages or to recognise gay marriage.

They are completely shocked when told this isn’t true, and they don’t believe me when I point out that the Catholic church likewise doesn’t recognise marriages that take place outside of it and can no more be forced to perform a gay marriage than they are currently forced to recognise civil ceremonies or protestant ceremonies.

I think the polling on this is probably wildly inaccurate.

as to CA. I don’t know. Lots of conservatives in CA so it’s possible it does reflect the electorate’s decision— but remember, this was one of those cases where in order to support gay marriage you had to vote NO on the prop. I honestly think that props that are worded that way get a lot of false positives.
