I’m old enough to remember when Jimmy Carter was literally, with malice aforethought, murdering children for keeping Daylight Savings Time running all year, because it was darker longer when kids were going to school. But freezing to death? Meh!

I have no memory of President Carter extending DST all year at any time between 1977 and 1980. In January 1974, as a result of the 1973 Energy Crisis, Nixon extended DST starting on January 6. In 1974, DST ran from January 6 to October 27. Standard time resumed on October 27, 1974. In 1975, DST started on February 23rd and ended on October 26th. I was in second and third grades at the time and do remember Mom being perturbed at the change and my second grade school altering its hours so our day would begin and end an hour later.

During the Carter years, DST ran from the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October.
