So Hallowe’en is an artificial holiday in Germany, it started with GI’s from Heidelberg Kaserne holding a Hallowe’en blowout at nearby Castle Frankenstein and sort of spread from there.

But in some villages in areas of ancient Celtic settlement like ours, they still celebrate Klumpennacht, which is identical, even featuring hollowed-out turnip lanterns (Klumpen) and dressing up to go about the village collecting sweets.

And added plus: November 1st is a holiday in the Rhineland-Palatinate so kiddies can party ‘til they’re purple.
