Dear Residents,

2024 is going to be a historic year for cicada emergence in Chicago and Illinois. Billions of cicadas emerge after 17 years from two broods.

Illinois is one of two states that will host both broods this year. The dual emergence hasn’t been seen for centuries, with Brood XIII and Brood XIX both set to pop out of the ground simultaneously.

This rare occurrence last happened 221 years ago. Some areas are already seeing them. We have advised with our pest control, but unfortunately there is nothing we can do to treat or prevent this from happening.

Cicadas are loud, but harmless. Any work orders that come in for cicadas will be cancelled, as we are not able to do anything. We thank everyone in advance for your understanding as we all go through this event together.
