With all the rain we’ve gotten in the last 24 hours, I’m not surprised about the manhole explosion. Happens fairly regularly in a city where most of the utilities are underground.

Yep… that’s what I was referring to. It happens a lot more than one would realize if you don’t spend 24 hours a day in a city like NYC. I’ve seen all sorts of stuff coming out of manholes… fire, smoke, water, homeless people, steam (all the time)… animals… there is a whole active, alive subterranean world below the streets of NYC.
