False dilemma. The broadcast/cable “news” and “reporting” situation is more complicated than saying “the news isn’t being reported”

To understand the issue of redress and fairness, you have to know something about the Communications Act of 1934 and the last major revision, the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The latter is what gave us Fox News, and the current phenomenon of “news” that isn’t really “news” but just bigoted opinion, flowing out from the television.

If you don’t understand this history, you’ll never understand why someone like Pat Buchanan persists for years on MSNBC, while Lisa Simeone gets canned from NPR.
