If you like history, conspiracies, and thinking, try Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco.

It’s dense and challenging, but if you can get past the first, mostly historically focused part, you’re in. People tend to hate it or love it (mostly for its difficulty). One criticism I saw said it would benefit from a better translation; even so, I don’t doubt it would still be a difficult read.

I loaned it to my g-son’s 19 yr old friend and he commented that he had to get out the dictionary but saw it as a challenge.

With so many conspiracy theories coming out on the internet, Eco may have been a bit ahead of his time with this book (published in English, 1989). It makes “The DaVinci Code” look like the joke it is.
