The fact is that movement candidates on the fringe of American politics usually get shellacked, i.e., Barry Goldwater and George McGovern. If the GOP gets its head out of its ass and nominates Rubio, Sanders will probably lose, badly.

True, but those cases (as seems to be usual in American politics) were “fringe” candidates running against very Mainstream ones (and incumbents, to boot). Which usually does mean floor-wiping time. But I can’t recall a Presidential election between two fringies in relevant history. Though I supposed in a Rubio-Sanders matchup, Marco gets to be “mainstream” by default (?)
