re: #69 Anymouse

Wingnut legislators gotta wing, this time in South Carolina. A state legislator has introduced a bill that would ban the sale of computers in So. Car. that could access porn.

I’m not even sure how you would do that; such sites pop up every day. Moreover, someone (either in government or in computer firms) would have to keep lists of “acceptable content.”

Wonkette’s take on this guy and his bill is certainly funny (and as always not suitable for work), as is the crude title of the article (hence, it is behind privacy tags).

Should this bill pass (which I highly doubt), the response from computer makers and companies that sell them will be “HAHAHAHA…no.” They’re not going to willfully install ransomware in their own devices for a single state, knowing that the end result will simply be that people take their money to companies that don’t bend over for Big Daddy Gov’t. Even Wal-Mart (that bastion of “morality”) would be quick to tell the SC legislature where to stick this new law. This would actually blow up worse than HB2, especially the first time they try to shut down a store that sells these “sinful” machines.
