Depression is still a misunderstood ailment. Most sufferers cannot defend themselves in public, cannot explain to their friends and family what’s going on and in the rare instances they do they are ostracized to within the end of their lives.

I’m still POed about the op-ed published in the Los Angeles Times from an anti-pharma nut telling anyone who is taking so-called maintenance medications (talking about clinical depression and other disorders or diseases) to throw them away. Such people are tools of Big Pharma (tm).

The Times came under days of sustained attack for publishing such nonsense from people with heart disorders, cancer, epilepsy, diabetes, &c. Plenty of people with clinical depression also weighed in noting their medications made their lives manageable.

After several days, the Times came out with a mealy-mouthed centrist “you need to hear both sides” argument, arguing that the amount of vitriol being levelled at the newspaper proved that people are stuck in their ways and refuse to listen to other perspectives.
