I do not think Israel will pull a first strike. Not even conventional. Obama has worked this out. He is a reason they won’t. If they did, few leading mullahs would exist there. It’s difficult for a cloud of airborne debris to govern.

I suspect this is a show of force to play power politics with a rock solid anti missile force. Imagine this-Some nation like Iran or NK launches a missile attack, and the Navy sweeps the rockets from the sky. The attacker is chastened and the victim has no reason to counter strike.
