The French actually fought bravely for the most part. But once the Germans had cut off their best formations in 1940, they had already lost the campaign. They fell not to cowardice, but to superior German organization, strategy, tactics, and leadership.

Which De Gaulle had warned them about in the mid-30s. Warning ignored. In essence, the French High Command was still fighting WWI at the outbreak of WWII. They never had a chance.
