Playing to the middle and striving for objectivity is EXACTLY what a news organization should do.

Depends where and when. If the two ‘sides’ (which there never really are) are wildly unbalanced, playing to the middle is fucking stupid.

Playing to the middle between creationists and people who understand evolution happens is awful.

Playing to the middle between segregationists and those who think the races are equal is terrible.

And objectivity is almost always false; it’s far better to acknowledge your own subjectivity and try to work honestly within it, rather than fool yourself into thinking you’ve somehow become an objective voice about anything you care about.
