Martin’s background has zero impact on the night of his murder. Zimmerman had no way of knowing anything about the kid before seeing him walking down the street and deciding he was going to do something about it.

They’ve been looking for “facts” that they can incorporate into their version of how things “really went down.” I’ve been treated to various renditions of the same scenario, namely that Trayvon’s a gang member who was casing houses when Zimmerman spotted him. When Zimmerman confronted him, Trayvon decided that beating up a “white guy” would earn him serious cred and decided to attack (though sometimes this gets exchanged with GZ telling TM that the cops are coming, causing TM to panic and lash out).

It’s basically the continuing effort to turn Trayvon from innocent teen walking back from the convenience store into a gang thug who Zimmerman was doing everybody a favor by shooting.
