GOP congressman: Men cope with violence better than women

While discussing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) on Sunday, Republican Rep. John Duncan of Tennessee claimed that men in general were better at coping with violence than women.

“Like most men, I’m more opposed to violence against women than even violence against men,” he told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “Because most men can handle it a little better than a lot of women can.”

Duncan said he was undecided on whether to support reauthorizing the VAWA, a 1994 law that aids the victims of sexual and domestic violence.
