I don’t want to lump all athletes into this category, but “dumb jock” really does apply to Riley Cooper.

The amazing thing is that many sports talk-radio stations are acting as the voice of reason on this. Most of the calls are a variation of:

1) Well, black people use the word… it can’t really be racist.
2) Therefore it must be an accident if a white guy does it
and/or
3) We could be free of racism if it weren’t for those people

The top-rated comment on a Yahoo article is exactly like that- the comment actually uses the term “The Blacks”.
