Think what always got me in ‘08 was the irate wingnuts, particularly of the female variety, who saw every criticism of Palin as an attack on her looks and on women in general. It was absolutely Freudian in the way they assumed that the reasons they were supporting her were the reason why her critics hated her.

How I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard “You’re just afraid of a smart, pretty conservative woman!!” through the last months of ‘08 and all of ‘09.
