re: #67 BeachDem
When I’m with a group getting separate checks, I usually double my tip to cover the probability that someone else will either undertip or not tip at all.
(And when I go to restaurants where friends or kids of friends work, I usually tip more than the meal costs!)
We almost always tip 20-25%. You have to really fuck up to get only 15%. Unless they’re personally rude, really rude…not busy or whatever because shit happens, but downright rude. I won’t abide that. Then I leave pennies to indicate it’s not that we don’t tip but you got what you earned.
When I was dating, I had one of those IHOP midnight coffee after date things where we had pie and coffee for a couple of hours. The waitress said most people at that time of night never left tips. I left her a $20. It made me sad that people either don’t know that wait staff makes virtually nothing in salary and everything in tips or don’t give a shit.
