I resent very much that small town America has become synonymous with “real America.” Worse, supporters of this bullshit idea seem to hand pick the most low brow, backwards, knee-jerk, afraid-of-bright-lights-and-science people to represent these supposed strongholds of American values. Pitchforks and lanterns prevail when the camera is turned their way. If it wasn’t for their newfound ability to FW FW stupid, alarmist, wingnut emails, we’re led to believe these real Americans spend sunup to sundown tilling the soil before they retire by candlelight with their bibles.

It’s a tiresome lie, and it diminishes the the millions and millions of people living in the US that don’t live that way, and don’t buy that particular flavor of imaginary bullshit.
