While the president is undoubtably a bright guy, he also happens to be blessed with extremely dimwitted domestic adversaries.

It’s more than the stupidity of individual GOP candidates. GOP madness is affecting their grasp of reality (i.e., unskewed polls, 47% etc. in 2012). If/when this gets noticed by the media/public it is damaging.
