So as an educator, how do you get around not asking them to think? What kind of discussions do you have? Is it all lecture with no break out groups?
I teach Listening Comprehension and Spoken English, so most discussions occur during the latter. But I do feed them material in both classes that I hope will get them thinking, and a recent debate I staged went over very well. The topic was “in a relationship, must the man always make more than the woman?” They like assignments like that, because they rarely get a chance in their other classes to discuss issues.
