On Mother’s Day 2012, I still had a mother, a grandmother, a stepmother and a mother-in-law. They were all gone in a little over 2 years. My mother-in-law and stepmother died on the same day in 2013. My grandmother followed a few weeks later, just after her 105th birthday. My mom passed on July 23, 2014. I last spoke to her about 5 hours before she died. My last words to her were, “I love you, mama,” which had probably been my first thoughts of her 65 years earlier.
