It’s totally awesome that our first black President gets to unveil Rosa Parks’ statue. Think about it—from the back of the bus to the Oval Office in less than 60 years. We have a long way to go yet, but it’s still pretty darned wonderful and I’m glad I lived long enough to see it (I didn’t think I would).

President Obama is standing on countless brave shoulders every time he gets up to speak to us.

Okay, I’d better get back to work before I get all sentimental & weepy.

Amen. I’m amazed at how far African Americans have come. My Dad told me about going to Florida from Jamaica in the 1950s and seeing racial segregation up close and personal. And my parents talk about watching the Civil Rights activists being manhandled on tv while they were living in England. Needless to say they were thrilled when President Obama was elected in 2008 and ecstatic that he was re-elected. Progress is beautiful.
