I certainly wasn’t one of those arguing against Hillary on that basis, but the ugly reality is that Trump is President, and apathy played a big role in making that happen. Now people are going to get an education in what giving the reins of power to the GOP really means in terms of sheer human suffering. I’m hoping the backlash will result in Democratic control of government come January 2021’ and with it the enactment of Medicare for all and federally mandated right to choose.

2004 serves as an excellent counterargument to that, that whatever misery that may come may ease up just enough that the rubes can convince themselves that “it can’t get any worse.” Then we’re left with 4-8 years of cleaning up the mess, for which we’re penalized when we don’t work miracles overnight.
