From my perspective, such an experience is not fruitless.

Failure, so called, is part of life. Trying something and not achieving what one originally hoped is part of life.

Not only is there nothing wrong with that, I’d rather live with someone who tried something and had to change directions, than with someone who never tried anything.

What Galloway is missing in his rant is that people need meaning and purpose in their lives. What that means is up for each person to decide. Galloway is just ranting like an old curmudgeon. He might as well be complaining that the kids get off his lawn.
