I am ashamed of my Scots heritage at this moment. I doubt the people who were writing the drivel you cited were true Britons—let alone Scots.

Actually, this view is common in Scotland; I heard interviews with surviving family members of victims who died in the explosion who hold the view that this guy is a ringer sent in by Libya in response to demands that they turn over the perpetrators, and that the actual culpable parties have remained free all this time, thanks to Moammar.

No idea whether this is true or not, but it isn’t an uncommon view over there.
