The Soviets went at it for something like 20 years. The Soviets are not soft and squishy. The Soviets got out. The area went all fundie Taliban. People suffered.

When we leave that shithole, it will revert. It may take a few years, but it will be another humanitarian crisis, fundamentalist, terrorist raising shithole, run by kinda sorta democratically elected back alley assholes with a fist full of money, and a foot on the throats of their citizens.
