Yes! The thing is, this book would be more or less truthful in 1930s-1950s. They were writing in 1984. That’s 3 years before the perestroika. USSR of 1970s-1980s was not USSR of 1930s-1950s, yet Conquest and White insist on applying the Stalin-era standards. This leads to comic out-of-place entries like:
