I’m in exactly this position interacting with a friend of mine.

He keeps wanting me to tell him why things are happening this way, and I keep saying “No, this is how this guy always was, if you even slightly looked at his history as a businessman.”

Some trends I notice:

1. A bunch of these people don’t actually have critical thinking skills or any notion about how to verify something through research.
2. They’ve been told their feelings have validity, and that angry shouty stuff by certain kind of “traditional” male has validity, so their episteme is made of spun sugar.
3. There is an enormous mythology in which liberals are Always Wrong, such that they don’t even know policy positions for parties or individuals. Hence the confuse about things like health care.
4. The rest of the world exists as a few vague details and some stereotypes. The idea that other people might not see things the same way is alien.

…and that’s how this happens.
