Well, Conservatives did their damnedest to erase all the goodwill Ike built up and they succeeded.

Back in Ike’s time half of the GOP were “liberal Republicans”. Goldwater’s goons started purging them out and the last liberal Republican standing , Robert Stafford was gone in 2006.
