Turns out, the “protests” aren’t really materializing. Another case of slactivism, it appears.

Airport screening protest isn’t flying — so far

A loosely organized protest over the use of body scanners that threatened to delay travelers over the holiday weekend has so far failed to materialize at O’Hare International Airport.

Security lines were relatively short and appeared to be moving quickly.

The O’Hare situation appeared to be typical of airports around the country, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Airport officials in Atlanta, Denver and New York — among the nation’s most heavily traveled facilities — reported that early crowds were moving easily through checkpoints, with little or no disruptions, the newspaper reported.

It said a handful of screeners actually reported positive feedback from customers as they whisked through security lines.

At O’Hare this morning, Ohio office manager Annie Truman,41, who was on her way to Los Angeles, said the longest line she encountered was for coffee.

Randall Lowe, a 56-year-old contractor from Maine, said he expected a pat-down because his hip replacement always sets off airport metal detectors.

This time the hands-on search was “a little more invasive but nothing that was offensive,” he said.

Darnell Martin, 37, of the Wicker Park neighborhood, who was on his way to visit family in Las Vegas, said he went through the full body scan and wasn’t bothered by it at all. He said he didn’t ask for the pat-down, but that wouldn’t have been a problem either. “I’m going to Vegas,” he joked. “People pay money for that in Vegas.”
