I left the high-end audio world when snake-oil like $10,000 cables started to get popular. Having designed a lot of speakers and amplifiers, I was appalled at the idea of connecting up “magic” cables to speakers/amps where the internal wiring was, well, not “magic”.

It still annoys me to see the ridiculous prices for a lot of the cables and speaker wire today. And don’t even get me started on “magic” power cables…

Reminds me of all the boasts when we got our LCD TV about how we definitely needed gold-plated HDMI cables for the best possible performance. The reality being that there’s no real difference for most applications, it just helps the clerk’s bottom line to sell you a $2 set of cables for $50 because they look shiny.
