You’re right. Any private company that had lost as much money as NASA has on the Space Shuttle program alone would have long ago gone into liquidation, with a lot of headshaking over how stupid it’d been to put so much money into a program that was built on promises that are unattainable even now.

It’s disingenuous to judge NASA like that, I think. We’ve all benefited greatly from progress that it has made. If it could make money of off it’s research I think you’d be singing a different tune.
