It’s kind of a bummer we don’t cover this stuff as much as we used to on the old LGF but it just attracts too many bigots. It’s a very serious human rights issue that goes largely ignored.

Could not agree more. It’s a hard line to balance.

We had kind of a blow-up on another list I’m on because someone posted a piece on how what happened to Lara Logan was an indictment of Islam, and got quite angry and cranky when people challenged that and gave counterexamples of sexual violence from other cultures.

It pisses me off something fierce to talk to people who get all maudlin about how Islam hurts women, but when you put that in a global context, you’re just being a dumb feminist, and shit happens, and you have to deal with it.

So it really is a mess, talking about it and considering how to make things better, without getting mobbed by assholes.
