History tells us pretty clearly, especially in the US, that the choice is between corporate power and government power. The withering away of the US regulatory state to end up with a libertarian utopia is just as farcical as the withering away of the dictatorship of the proletariat in classical Marxism, so I can’t take it seriously.

That said, it does make sense to have a moderate level of skepticism for government power, to ensure that on balance the laws/regulations do more good than harm.

i would have to agree and add that imho skepticism of government power is a fundamental american value that is written into the fabric of the constitution

…and that’s what i believe as a progressive and wingnuts who tell me “you’re in favor of big government” can shove it up their ass
