I don’t know Franken’s motivations, but the law contains a provision that allows the State Department to stop any lawsuit. More importantly, though, I’m actually OK with the Democrats going along with it. McConnell and Co were hoping to use this against the Democrats. But they can’t; they can’t use it against Obama because he’s not running, and they can’t use it against Democrats because they voted for it. Notice who’s missing from any news about it: Democrats. This is all on McConnell’s shoulders.

I can see this as a bit of realpolitik by Congressional Democrats. On the other hand, treating voters as if they are stupid is a bad habit for Democrats to get into. Normalization of stupidity helps Republicans.
