I can think of several other murdering regimes around the globe, and yet the US doesn’t have troops in those countries. Sudan comes to mind, for example. So, while we can agree that Saddam Hussein was a catastrophe to Iraq and its population, and that he deserved to be kicked out, that can’t be the only reason why Bush threw American troops and resources there.

Also, I’m not entirely convinced that the poor Iraqis are better living in a country torn by civil war, surrounded by death squads, daily explosions and suicide bombers than under the iron heel of a tyrant like Hussein.

I would defer that question to the Iraqi people to answer.
