This article from WaPo “Pence once called Trump’s Muslim ban ‘unconstitutional.’ He now applauds a ban on refugees”, also talks about Defense Secretary James Mattis’s support, after previously stating that Trump’s suggestion “is causing us great damage right now.” The Mattis position is much more troubling. Pence can call something “unconstitutional”, but that’s just an opinion — and it’s not obvious what the Governor of Indiana knows about it. But when Mattis said Trump’s suggestion was causing great damage, he was talking about something that he, as a military man, was in a position to know as a fact.
