Until 1975 all religions used the one church pennant when conducting services. SECNAVY authorized a separate (variant) pennant for jewish services in that year. In the late 1990s there was a movement to allow a third variant, one for Islamic services, which was to have final review in the mid-2000s. For obvious reasons that was tabled.

Which is an absolute and clear sign that this really is literally about respecting establishment of some religions over others.

It’s these kind of absolutely clear violations of the first amendment that get completely ignored or handwaved by many who hyperventilate about the second, and many who see them as trivial or not a big deal.
