Chinese coinageThey all have big numbers on them to speed identification, I guess. The smaller coins are “jiao” denominations = 1/10 and 5/10 yuan. The larger “1” coin on the right is a 1 yuan coin. The “1” coin on the left with the fancy edging is an old style 1 jiao coin.
They also have paper equivalents for the coinage.
It occurred to me that the big 5 may be a simple way for people from different parts of China (who speak diiferent dialects and maybe alphabets) to identify coins
